Blogging is super important to developing your online presence. To blog effectively, I suggest blogging on a schedule so that your readers know what to expect and when to expect it. For example, This is my schedule for the Prissy Fit blog:
Movie Monday
Tuesday Tunes
Wednesday Winners
Trailer Park Thursday
Fiction Friday
I also suggest blog hops and giveaway hops in order to build a following. Those will be discussed in detail in a later post.
You also need to have a semi specific blog. Have an area of focus so people know what to look for in your posts. Yes you can occasionally post about your dog’s favorite cookie recipe or the shoes you fell in love with on your last shopping trip, but if every day is completely random your followers won’t know why they’re following.
As far as design of your blog, I like to visit other blogs and take some elements of style that I like to add to my own blog.
I’ve actually been a pretty poor blogger over the past two years so in 2012 I’m attempting to change that. Here is what I’m working on:
1. Blog regularly
2. Visit and comment on other blogs
3. Participate in blog hops and giveaways
Don’t feel you have to write three page articles every time you want to post to your blog. I find that shorter posts are more effective. I also write several blogs in advance and schedule them to post on the appropriate day. So if I have a block of time free, I will go ahead and write two or three posts for the week and schedule them so I don’t have to think about it later when I might be too busy.
Are you curious about Twitter? Tomorrow I talk about the Do's and Don'ts of the Twitter world.
Good tips. Somehow, I've never managed to write anything in advance. Too last minute, I guess. Good idea to focus this blog around tips for marketing your book. That'll come in very useful for many of us. I'll come back and grab your badge soon.
